ACORD-Uganda Wraps Up Successful ICYD Project in Gomba

ACORD-Uganda Wraps Up Successful ICYD Project in Gomba District The Gomba District Local Government wishes to acknowledge the valuable contribution of ACORD-Uganda (Agency for Cooperation and Research in Development - Uganda) in supporting vulnerable children and youth through the USAID-funded Integrated Children and Youth Development (ICYD) Activity, which has been implemented in the district since 2020. The ICYD project aimed to improve the wellbeing of Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC), youth, and their caregivers, especially those affected by HIV/AIDS, violence, and poverty. Gomba was selected as a key focus district due to its high levels of vulnerability among children and youth. Over the course of the project, ACORD-Uganda deployed: 30 social workers to support child protection and case management across sub-counties, 4 district-based coordinators to strengthen coordination and referral systems in partnership with local government departments. Key project achievements include: Strengthening community child protection structures and referral pathways, Supporting HIV-positive children and caregivers with adherence and health services, Reintegrating vulnerable children into school and promoting retention, especially for girls, Providing skills development and psychosocial support for out-of-school youth. As the project comes to a close, ACORD-Uganda officially handed over key assets to Gomba District to support the continuity of services. Notably, this included the handover of a project motorcycle, which will remain with the district to facilitate field-based community outreach and child protection activities. The District extends its appreciation to ACORD-Uganda, USAID, and all implementation partners for their dedicated service to the people of Gomba. Their support has left a lasting impact on the lives of children, youth, and caregivers across the district.
